Upcoming Third Graders

Upcoming Third Graders

I cannot wait to meet you!  Keep an eye on this blog to check for updates.  Also, the supply list is available as it's own page.  Keep an eye out in your mailbox in August for a special letter!  Be sure that you read and practice your math facts over the summer!   Also, get outside, have lots of fun, and be safe!

Last Day Letter & Pictures

To my Students:
I want to thank you for a wonderful school year.  It has been my pleasure to have each and every one of you in my room.  At some point in the year, you have each challenged my to be a better teacher.  In return, I have challenged you to always give your best.  I am so very proud of all the hard work that you have completed and the accomplishments you have made.  I think back to all our testing, NWEA, SBAC, DIBELs, etc and am extremely proud.  Each and every time I asked you to do something, you would respond with “Sure Mrs. Coulon”.  For that, I say Thank You.

To their Parents:
I want to thank you for all your continued support throughout the school year. I appreciate the communication and updates on your child as the year went on.  I always knew that if something came up, you would be there to help.  Thank you for letting me be your child’s teacher and allowing me to be apart of their lives.  It has been my pleasure to say that I was their teacher.

With this in mind, I sit back and reflect on my students.  I have completed a certificate for each student with a memory of them.  I want to share these memories with you.  Please enjoy….

Nathaniel - You are my responsible student.  I always knew that you would be doing the right thing.
Miles - You are my reader.  I knew that I could find you with your nose in a book.
Ava - You are my runner.  Through coaching you in Girls on the Run, I have found out that you are very fast and try as I might, I was NOT going to beat you.
Logan - My time keeper… I knew that if I told you that we would be doing something at a certain time, that you would remind me.
Jaylin - I have a question for you.. “What if I see you in the hallway next year, will you say hello?”  You will always be my “What if” student.
Kaylee - Can I help you?  I always knew if I needed something done, that you were the student to ask.  You are my helper.
Laci - Chair, what is that.  You loved to stand, however, whenever I looked up you would always be doing a dance move.  You are my dancer.
Lukas - Games, games, games.  Whenever there was a party, you always wanted a Device Party.  You are my gamer.
Bri - My forever Gadget Girl.  If there was a toy, you would love to play with it.
Alex - My DI (Destination Imagination) Girl.  You have a great imagination.  I look forward to seeing your projects in the future.
Addie - My Little Organizer - Whenever there was something out of place, I would always see you go fix it.  I rarely had to ask.  I appreciate all your kindness.
Alyssa - My Forever Addition - You may not have started the school year with us, BUT you blended right in and are an important part of the classroom.
Kate - My Kid Making a Difference - You have a great heart and should know that you have made a difference in our classroom
Quintin - You will always be my Challenger.  You were never willing to just let an answer be.  You loved to question and understand the “WHY”.  Don’t ever stop asking “WHY”.
Seth - You are my heater.  If I was every cold, you would always tell me not to worry and give me a hug.
Luke - My “Worker with Hands”.  You are going to do great things.  Seeing you in DI (Destination Imagination), Boy Scouts, and Legos, makes me excited for what is to come for you.
Tobi - You are my quiet student.  However, when I would sat back and watched, I saw you blossom into a student who would speak out and challenge herself.
Jack - You are my peer leader.  The students would always look to you when faced with a challenge. Keep looking for that next challenge.
Christopher - You are my jokester.  You loved to tell a joke or pull a prank on a student or me.  To see you laugh after was always a highlight of my day.
Ms. Lise - You are my cleaner and friend.  Thank you for always being someone to talk to and count on for support.

I wish everyone a wonderful summer.  Be sure to come back and visit me next year.  My door is always open to my former students.

Your 3rd Grade Teacher,
Mrs. Coulon

Field Day at HMS

We had a wonderful Field Day at HMS.  We survived the hot and humid weather with fun games.  Thank you to Mr. Kinne and Mrs. Welch for being the parent volunteers with our class.  Also, thank you to our patient and hardworking captains, Jack & Ava, who did an amazing job!  Here are a few photos..

Ring Toss - Just look at the concentration on the student's faces..

Scattegories - Students got the letter T and G.  They had to think of words that start with those letters for categories like: sports athlete, piece of clothing, body of water, etc.

Rubber Chicken Toss & Marble Game - Students loved the chicken toss but were not to sure about the marble game.  Students had to take a shoe and sock off, then put sanitizer on (to clean).  Then they were timed 20 seconds to get as many marbles out of the ring.  It was really funny to watch but I must say I am glad that I didn't have to do it!

Thank you to Mrs. Olkenon for another successful field day!

The Brain Show

We were very luck to have the Brain Show come to HMS today.  Students were called up to participate and answer questions for a 100 points each.  If they got the question correct, they had to perform the correct dance as a group to keep the points.  The first group to 300 points won the round.  We had 3 students get called up... Alyssa, Seth & Quintin. Thank you to the PTA for providing us with this great experience.

Homework - Students came home with the their homework for next week today.  Students expressed that they liked having the homework over the weekend. We did not get a chance to take the spelling pre-test, so I told students that they were all taking the regular test.  However, if they want to also take the challenge list after, all students are welcome too.

AR Tests - Today I challenged the students to take as many AR tests as they can over the next 2 weeks.  We are currently in 2nd place for the most test taken by a class in 3rd grade, with 778.  I also went over the amount of words students have read.  We have 1 student who has already read 1 million words.  I challenged more students to read to see if they could reach 1 million words too.

Twin Day - Monday, June 5th - Students can dress as a twin with another student in the class.  Some students asked if they could be a twins with a stuffed animal, which would be okay with me.

Beach Day - Thursday, June 8th - Students may bring in a beach towel, sunglasses, beach hat, etc (no bathing suits). This is a great way to be “shining and positive” for testing.
