Fun in the Snow

It has taken students two full recess times to make this snowman.  Thanks to the determinations of these students, we finally were able to put him together.  Let's hope he is still together tomorrow at recess so students can finish it!!

SCA - week 2

Today, the SCA members came back for their second lesson.  Donny, Becca, and Natalie's lesson was on trees in New Hampshire.  They gave students time to observe four different types of tree bark and identify each one.  They showed students "tree cookie slabs" so they could identify the age of the tree.  Lastly, students were asked to draw their own made up tree, tell how old it was, and what the bark looks like.  Another great lesson!!

Today students wore their pjs, slippers, and robes to school. Then this afternoon Mrs. Saunders came into our classroom as a guest reader. She read the students a few books and then the students read their favorite picture book to a friend.

Vegetable Day

SCA - Week One

Today was the first day of the SCA Earth Stewards coming into the classroom.  Natalie, Becca, and Donny introduced themselves and talked about what it means to be an Earth Steward.

They also shared more about where they live.  These are pictures of their cabin and living arrangements.  They were trying to show students how they stay warm and work together to live in these cabins.

Lastly, Natalie, Donny, and Becca taught the students their Earth Steward Pledge.  This pledge was put to hand motions to help the students remember their pledge.  Please take a moment and ask your child to recite the pledge using the hand motions.

The first week went great! Can't wait for next week!

Book Buddies - 100 Days

On Monday, we met with Mrs. Rehm's class for book buddies to celebrate the 100th day of school (actually on Wednesday due to the snow day).  We challenged the students to come up with 100 words that could be made from the words Valentines Day.  We decided to show the students that it could be done.

Happy Groundhog's Day

      Punxsutawney Phil

With today being Groundhog's Day, students came into the classroom discussing whether Phil had seen his shadow or not and what that meant for Spring.  So, I looked up a video for the students to watch to see if indeed Phil had seen his shadow or not.  Click on the link above to watch the video we watched.  We found out that Spring is coming soon!

SOHO satellite

Today, I introduced the new unit in reading, "Sun, Moon & Earth".  While discussing the new vocabulary for our first story, "Sun", we read a selection about the SOHO satellite.  The students started asking me questions about the satellite and whether it was real.  So, I found a website with some videos about the SOHO satellite.  I told the students I would put the website on the blog in case they were interested in watching more videos.

Here is the website:
