Valentine's Day

Just a quick note to let you know how we will celebrate Valentine's Day in our classroom. First, students are allowed to make valentines for each other.  I am asking that they bring in their cards on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, the day of the party.  During this short party, we will be handing out cards.  Please be sure if your child decides to make cards, he/she must make a card for every member of the class. Remember, candy is NOT allowed, but feel free to send in pencils, erasers, stickers, etc.
Second, I am allowing all students to create their own Valentine mailbox.  The mailbox may be as simple or as elaborate as you’d like.  The mailbox can be a box, a bag, etc. The students may bring in their mailboxes at any time.  They make a beautiful display in our classroom.
Third, I will be sending home a note with more information in the beginning of February. This note will have the list of student names on the bottom of the page for students to have when making cards.

Here is an example. I made mine today. :-)

Problem of the Week

Last weeks Problem of the Week proved to be a real challenge.  There were 3 students who took that challenge but still were not able to solve it.  They came in on Friday at recess to work with me to see the strategy needed to try to solve the suduko problems.  Great effort to:

Kid Stuff Books

Students will be coming home with their "KidStuff" books from the PTA.  They have been told that if parents are not interested in buying the book, then they are to return the book back to school.  If parents are interested in the KidStuff book, then the book can be kept at home and the money needs to be returned with the order sheet.  Feel free to have friends and relatives order books too.  Thank you!!

Informational Writing

Writing - Informational

Topic:  Honeybees

Students will be reading about the Honeybee.  Then they will work on using two column notes to organize the information from their article.  When making their two-column notes, students have to pick out the main idea of each paragraph.  Students will research about where the honeybees live, what its' live cycle is, and what it eats.  After taking all our notes, students will be writing a 5 paragraph essay (with me in the classroom).  Then on Friday, students will type their writing into their Google Drive.

Inherited Traits Assignment

In class, the students and I have been discussing traits.  We have learned that traits can be inherited or acquired.  Inherited Traits are traits that offspring (students) get from their parents.  Acquired Traits are traits that offspring (students) learn as they grow.  With this in mind, I have asked students to take a few minutes and talk to their parents about traits that they have inherited from them.  I am asking that this assignment be brought back to school by Friday, January 6th.
