The March Book Order will also be coming home.  It is not due til Thursday, March 9th.  But, feel free to order anytime between now and then.

Spirit Week

Just an update on some fun events coming soon.  Students will be asked to focus on friendship as we head into vacation.  Please take a look and start thinking about how your child can participate too.

New England Map

Last week, we started working with the New England Map.  Students were asked to label the states, bodies of water, and country on the map.  Now, there are working on using their best coloring to finish the map.  Here is what we labeled.

Smarter Balance

Third grade is the year the Smarted Balanced (SBAC) assessments begins.  It usually occurs towards the middle/end of March for third graders.  Here is the link to the website so you can familiarize yourself with the test.  This testing is much different than NWEA (which students have been doing since K at Underhill) so we will practice the test many times beforehand.  Students can also practice at home and get familiar with the structure and tools.  It may be a good idea for you to see what your child is expected to be able to complete by helping them with the practice tests at home.  The link to the practice tests can be found here. You do not need any usernames or passwords.

*Students were introduced to the SBAC testing and we have been to the ELA Training Test so check out the features!

Phase of the Moon (Optional)

For homework this week, I asked students to study the moon and find out what phase it was in each night.  This was an optional activity.  I told the students that if they wanted to continue to observe the moon, that I would give the Moon Journal back to them to continue to observe over the next few weeks.  I can't wait to see what has been happening with the moon.
