Instrument Sign Ups
Instrument Sign Ups!
Mr. Davini will be holding an Instrument Demo for all third graders this
Wednesday (5/31). He will show students all of the instruments they can
play in fourth grade. He will also send home a notice for students to sign-up
for their top three choices of instruments. Usually this notice goes home
the same day as the demo and the sooner the kids get their form back, the
sooner they are to get their top choice of instrument.

Bear Brook Field Trip
Today we conquered the mosquitos and beat the rain to have a wonderful field trip. I am going to try to walk you through our field trip by showing you some pictures.
When we arrived at Bear Brook, we met our counselors for the day, Brian & Hannah. They showed us around the fields and then took us on a nature walk.
On our walk, we stopped in a wooded area and searched for animals. We found a newt. Then we saw a large rock that was brought to us from the Ice Age. We also walked to a marshy area and sat quietly to listen for nature (and swat flies).
After, we went to lunch. It was during lunch that students got a lesson in composting.

Head School Field Trip
We had a wonderful field trip to the Head School. First, the weather was amazing (sunny and a breeze). Second, the students did a great job following all directions. Third, the school teachers did an excellent job. And lastly, the parent volunteers were wonderful. Here are some pictures from our day...

Head School - Writing Homework
Today, I sent home a journal entry about their trip to the Head School for students to complete for homework. Students should be telling me about their day from the perspective of a student from long ago. Each student was given a name of long ago to write about. I have decided to allow 2 days to complete this. DUE: Thursday, May 18th. Also, students will not be reading from their reading book on Wednesday for homework. This will allow students more time to write.
Tie Dye T-Shirt Sign Up
Tomorrow, students will be coming home with the volunteer Tie Dye T-Shirt papers. If you are able to come in to help, please fill out the paper and return to me. We are also looking for 1 parent to take the t-shirt home and wash them. Thank you in advance for all your help.

Week of May 15th - Updates
The next two weeks are going to be very busy for us! For that reason, I wanted to just update everyone on some important dates...
Tuesday, May 16th - HeadSchool Field Trip - Students can dress up like the time period. Girls can wear braids, long dresses, black boots, etc. Boys can wear overalls, suspenders, etc. It's very important the students and volunteers are on time. The bus will leaving promptly at 9:15am.
Thursday, May 18th - HMS Band Concert - We will get the chance to get a preview of the band concert in the morning.
Monday - May 22nd - Bear Brook Field Trip - As a reminder, there are no volunteers for this field trip and no money is needed. We will be doing a lot of walking, so students will want to wear sneakers or boots, as well as, dress appropriately for the weather. Remember to put on sunscreen and bug spray if necessary.
Friday - May 26th - Tie Dye T-Shirts - There will be a sign up coming home soon. We are looking for parents who want to volunteer to come in to help with the tie dying. We are scheduled for 1:50pm. Also, we are asking on parent to take the shirts home to wash. More information to come.
With all of these exciting activities in mind, I have decided that we will have our spelling test this week as scheduled. However, I will not be assigning a spelling test next week. Also, the next story, "Pueblo Storyteller", will be read over the next two weeks. During this time, we will also be working on a writing prompt about "Animals in Captivity".
In Math, we will be finishing Chapter 15 with Measurement. In Social Studies, we will be focusing on Long Ago. Students will be comparing today to long ago.
Book Buddies on Friday
On Friday, our book buddies came to our room to teach us about the Oregon Trail, which they have been studying. They showed us the "Oregon Trail" game. Students were able to experience what it was like back then. If students want to try this game at home, they can go on at https://classicreload.com/ oregon-trail.html or google "Oregon Trail dos game". We had a fun time!
Revenge Tag
The students have had a wonderful week and worked very hard. Therefore, I rewarded them with an extra recess. Students decided that they wanted to play revenge tag. We used the basketball court and had a great game of tag. Christopher was the official "untagger". Check out some pictures....

Supply Request
As the school year is coming to an end, I am finding that I am running out of some key supplies.
Tissues
Pencils
Clorox Wipes
Any donations would be welcome.
THANK YOU!
Fluency for Homework this Week
Several students came to me this morning to ask me about the Word Wall Words. I have decided to NOT have the students complete the questions this week. Instead, I have changed the chart on the front of the paper so that students have the 1st, 2nd and 3rd try spots. (See example below)I told students that anyone who wants to do the questions can get extra credit points on their spelling test.
