Argument Paragraph

Today was day 3 of working on our argument paragraph.  On Tuesday, students read the first source about why cats are better then dogs.  On Wednesday, students read the second source about why dogs make better pets then cats.  Then today, we used our two column notes that we took on Tuesday and wrote a argument paragraph of why cats make better pets then dogs.  Tomorrow, students will work in pairs to write their own argument paragraph about why dogs are better pets then dogs using the two column notes that students made on Wednesday.  Here is the paragraph that we wrote together today about cats being better pets....

Cat Lover

Hey dog lovers, here's why a cat is a better pet then a dog.  Cats can clean themselves, while dogs need help.  These felines love being alone, yet a dog needs companionship.  Dogs need owners to get exercise outside and cats are happy to play with a yarn ball inside by themselves.  Kittens are very quiet but dogs are really disturbing to the neighbors.  You don't even need to train a cat.  Mean while, dogs still need training.  This is why a cat is better pet than a dog.

Students did a wonderful job this week!

Multiplication Fact Practice

This week, students will start taking multiplication fact quizzes at school.  Students have been learning strategies at school to help them practice their facts.  Now I will be asking students to practice their facts at home as well.  I will be sending home a "Multiplication Log" for parents to sign and let me know what facts their child practiced that night.  Here is what the log looks like.  Please help your child practice each night.

Gymnastics Homework

Mrs. Olkenon, the gym teacher, has started a new unit on gymnastics.  In gym class yesterday, she introduced students to stretches that students should be practicing at home this week.  I will write gym stretches in the agenda books each day.  Please talk to your child and decide which days to do the exercises.  In talking to Mrs. Olkenon, she is only looking for students to do the exercise 2 or 3 times.  Thank you for your help.

February 9th - SNOW DAY

Money, Money, Money

Students have been bringing in money to share with the class from other countries.  We have been very busy sharing the money and using a currency exchange website to see if money in America is worth more or less.  Take a look at some of the money students have been looking at.

Do you know what country this money is from?
Hint:  The money here is from many different countries.

       2. Take responsibility for your part of the problem
       3. Show that you are genuinely sorry
       4. Try to make things better

I challenged all the students to complete the Winter Break Reading Challenge.  Students were challenged to read 10 times for 20 minutes each during break.  They were given suggestions as to ways that they could read.  Several students completed the challenge.  These students will have lunch with me today.

Winter Clothes

The winter (cold season) if finally here!!  This means that students really need to start bringing in the appropriate winter clothes for recess.  This includes boots, snow pants, hats, mittens, etc.  Students asked me yesterday if they could leave their snow pants at school.  I told them that if their parents agree, they can bring their snow pants in on Monday and bring them home on Friday.  If you want your child bringing them home each day, please let your child know.

What we know about money...

On Monday, we started preparing to read the story, "The Go-Around Dollar".  Before we read, I asked the students to tell me what they already know about money and how it is made.  We had a really good conversation.  I can't wait to read the story today.

Winter Holiday Assembly

On Wednesday, December 23, 2015, three or four students from each third grade classroom came together to put on a play about Santa's reindeer.  Thank you to Mrs. Ux, who helped the students practice during their recess time.  They did a wonderful job.  Here is a picture of the performers.
